A series of community events and celebrations ahve been taking place in north Devon with more to come, that mark the 10 years of being an active World Biosphere Reserve. 10 Years of North Devon UNESCO World Biosphere Partnership organisations and community groups have been raising awareness of the designation and its work through events as diverse as fun-runs, beer brewing, local recipe revivals, street cultural events and a Bioblitz or 2. Biosffer Dyfi Biosphere has been officially recognised as a "new style" biosphere reserve joining the ranks of Mount Olympus in Greece and Uluru in Australia.
The Welsh Assembly Government Environment Minister Jane Davidson said: "This status is a great honour not only for the area but also for Wales. The Dyfi Valley now joins a world-class group of special places for both people and nature. It provides a valuable example of how communities can live in a sustainable way." |
